Let me tell you the story
Of a man named Tim Butron,
A creative mind with a dark voice
Of that you can be certain.
He started as an animator
At the famed house of Mouse,
Though he longed to tell stranger stories
From his own clubhouse.
His directorial debut
Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure,
Demonstrated his particular style
But further still we venture.
His greatest film would come next
The story of mischief turned loose,
If you say his name three times
Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice.
But the subject for today
His most famous, I do declare,
Is one that he wrote and produced
Outside of the directors chair.
The Nightmare Before Christmas
A union of frights and cheers,
Has become its own holiday tradition
All through the years.
The story follows Jack Skellington
Pumpkin King of Halloween Town,
Who longs for different kind of holiday
To fix his boredom induced frown.
He stumbles upon a strange tree
With a Christmas themed door,
Upon entering he finds himself falling
Landing on a Snow covered floor.
He has discovered Christmas Town
A land of holly and toys,
Where colors shine and children play
A land of endless joys.
Jack loves this new thing
And wants to make it his own,
So he shows it to his own people
Like a brand new iPhone.
The Halloween folk are excited
And eager to give it a try,
But well-intended as they are
It is not as easy as Pie.
Jack especially looses himself
And does the unthinkable,
He kidnaps Santa Clause on Christmas Eve
Believing his plans are unsinkable.
Though he tries his best
To be like Santa in Christmas Town,
His gifts are all too terrifying
Leaving no smiles, but a collective frown.
Jack learns a valuable lesson
albeit rather late,
About identity and self worth
And a better way to escape fate.
It’s a valuable lesson to learn
One that is not very hard,
“To thine own self, be true”
To quote a famous Bard.
The film has more to offer
Than a wonderful story and theme,
Gorgeous visuals and stunning animation
Grace the silver screen.
The film is a love letter
To the outcasts and the weird,
It is a masterpiece in many ways
And deserves to be revered.
Halloween and Christmas
Can unite with joy,
For they are both about people
And the things we enjoy.
And so we move on from here
To the next Holiday rhyme,
One about a particular green grouch
And the two ways he entered prime time.
Ladies & gentlemen, I am TheNorm; Thank you all for reading.
